Obituary for Anna Georgiou
Anna Georgiou was a remarkable woman who had an incredible drive to live and survive. Throughout her life, she was a strong woman who, as a single mother, worked very hard to provide for and inspire her two children, Helen and Andrew. Anna had many struggles and hardships in her life, but she was able to overcome them through her strong Christian Orthodox faith coupled with the love for her family. Some of her best memories centered around spending time with her family. She was blessed to be able to both adore and closely enjoy her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She never complained and often went without to give them all that she could. Anna will always be remembered for her endearing love of children, especially babies. She was extremely nurturing to them and they in turn brought her much joy. “Little Yiayia” as she was known to her great-grandchildren, always looked forward to and appreciated their visits over the last number of years. She is survived by her daughter Helen (spouse Timothy); son Andrew; grandson Matthew (spouse Sarah and daughter Claire); granddaughter Anne (spouse Timothy and daughters Zoe and Abbie); granddaughter Katrina; grandson Gregory (spouse Amy and son Nathan) and grandson Joseph. She was preceded in death by her brother Dennis and leaves behind her siblings; Marina, Nikiforos, Calliope and Alexander. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her godson, Christopher, who held a very special place in her heart. Interment and service will be held at 12:30pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Novo-Diveevo Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Nanuet, New York. Funeral home arrangements will be provided by both the Michaud Funeral Home in Wilton, New Hampshire and the Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Monastery in Cobleskill, NY or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
