Obituary for Eleanora K. Cropley
Eleanora K. Cropley, age 74, passed away on January 28, 2017, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.
Born on July 13, 1942, to Albert and Astrid Knudsen of Brookline, NH, Eleanora was raised on her family's farm with her three sisters, Christine, Anna and Shirley. After graduating from Nashua High School in 1960, Eleanora graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1964. Eleanora was a dedicated educator, librarian and advocate for children whose career of over 40 years took her from East Granby (CT), Hollis (NH), the White Wing School (Nashua), the Hills Memorial Library (Hudson) and the Hudson and Nashua school districts. She retired from teaching in 2006, after a long tenure at Main Dunstable Elementary School (Nashua).
Eleanora met her husband of 54 years, Nelson Cropley of Danforth, ME, while teaching in East Granby, and the two married in 1965 after a brief courtship. The new family settled in the Nashua area with their children, Timothy, Peter and Maty. Eleanora's passion for teaching and her selfless, kind and caring way brought comfort and happiness to her family, friends and students. Eleanora was a woman of strong faith and was active in her church and community. She was also a voracious reader, puzzle solver and enjoyed playing card games.
Left to remember Eleanora are her husband, Nelson Cropley of Hudson, NH; her children Timothy Cropley and his wife Stacey, of Kyle, TX, Peter Cropley of New Orleans, LA and Maty Cropley of Jamaica Plain, MA; her two grandchildren; Colin Cropley of Gilsum, NH and Kayty Kerby of Hutto, TX; sisters Anna Morton and Shirley Williams, and her husband Frank Williams of Nashua, NH; her brother Anders Hansen and his wife Evelyn of Milford, NH; nieces Sara Williams of Stoughton, MA and Laura Gardner of Nashua, NH; nephews Frank Williams of Nashua, NH and John Gardner of Greenville, NH; and many other close relatives, friends and neighbors.
A memorial service and celebration of Eleanora's life, friends and family will be held on Thursday, February 2nd at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Hudson, NH. A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Brookline, NH, on Friday, February 3rd, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in Eleanora's name to the First Baptist Church of Hudson BAFTA group, or to the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
