Obituary for Joseph C. Bills
Joseph C. Bills, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, July 6, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 70.
He was a hard-working, and occasionally hard-living man who always had a passion for his work, no matter what he was doing. Raised in Milford, N.H., he had lived on Maple Street in Wilton for more than 30 years. He left high school to join the Army and served as an Airborne Ranger in Vietnam.
For much of his working life, he oscillated between being a carpenter and a long-distance truck driver. More recently, he was the owner of Bills and Sons Transportation, a FedEx-contracted trucking company.
When he was not working (a rare occurrence), Joe enjoyed touring lighthouses and covered bridges, a quest that took him to upstate New York just last weekend and across the country last summer.
Joe was eternally proud of his family and their families, his sons Joe Bills Jr. of Hancock and Fred Bills of Wilton, their families, Michelle Aldredge of Harrisville and Leila Brookhyan of Gardner, Mass., and especially of his granddaughter, Katrina Bills of Wilton.
Linda Bills, his wife of 40 years, died in 2008.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vermont Covered Bridge Society, www.vermontbridges.com.
