Obituary for Louise Marie Lavigne
Louise Marie Lavigne (née Cartier) passed peacefully at Ledgewood Bay Assisted Living Facility on January 6, 2017 in Milford, NH at the age of 81. Louise lived with Alzheimer ’s disease for many years, though she never lost her grace, her charm, or her smile.
Louise is survived by her husband, Jerome Lavigne of Concord, NH; daughter, Ann (husband Henry) Goulbourne of Chichester; sister-in-law Louise Cartier of Peterborough; brother-in-law Conrad (wife JoAnn) Lavigne of Rockport, MA; her nieces and nephews; family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Cartier.
She was born on December 10, 1935 in Haverhill MA to Elphege and Blanche (Proulx) Cartier. She graduated from Anna Maria College with a Bachelor’s of Education. She married Jerome, her high school sweetheart, in 1958 after his return from the Korean War. Her career as an Elementary School Teacher began in 1957 and continued for nearly 40 years. She taught grades one through five and spent 33 years at Broad Street School in Nashua. She was “Elementary Teacher of the Year” for the State of NH and has had a profound influence on thousands of students. Family and friends remember Louise as someone who fostered a love of learning in those around her and was generous with her love, praise, and encouragement. Her most cherished legacy was as a mother.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Louise’s life. In Louise’s loving memory, the family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to a local library in need – Louise would have liked that.
