M. Frances McBee (Franny), 79, of Wilton, NH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. She was born January 24, 1944, in Highland Park, MI, to parents Theodore L. and Helen M. (Watko) Swoboda, and grew up in Rochester, MI.
Fran is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David G. McBee of Wilton, NH; her daughter Caroline E.W. McBee and son-in-law Robert Bean of Manchester Center, VT; her son David J.G. McBee, PhD and daughter-in-law Marja-Liisa Mailend McBee, PhD (Mammu) of Estonia; her brother Theodore Swoboda Jr. (Ted) of MI; her sisters Margaret Ann Kelly of PA; Joanne Peniuk (Jo) of NH; Dolores Jacobs (Dee) and brother-in-law Dennis Jacobs of MI; and grandsons Cooper Bean, Tyler Bean, Tom McBee, and Hardi McBee.
A graduate of Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI, as was her husband, Fran was called to the vocation of teaching and loved it. Teaching children of diverse backgrounds in Nashua, NH, she was motivated to earn her master’s degree in order to teach English-to-Speakers-of-Other-Languages (ESOL). Impacting children and families from all over the world, she taught in the Hollis-Brookline School District and the surrounding area for many years. Her enormous creativity, profound listening skills, and a very big heart enhanced her work in ESOL.
She was a member of the Amherst Lions Club and was an active member of the Church of Our Savior in Milford, NH. Franny was a very good cook, an avid reader, and enjoyed games of intellect daily, such as crossword puzzles, solitaire, word search and more. Lifelong passions included birds and flowers, and she loved quilting with her quilting buddies. She and David shared a love of community service and spending time with their many friends.
Suffering many health challenges in her later years, she never complained. She always celebrated others and thought of them before herself. She will also be remembered for her great patience, curiosity, and wonderful sense of humor.
A memorial service is planned – tentatively – for Saturday, March 30, 2024, but may be held at a later date.
