Obituary for Marilyn R. Greeley
Marilyn R. Greeley, 87, of Wilton, NH, died, Thursday, April 27, 2017, at The Elms, in Milford, NH. Marilyn was born in Jersey City, NJ, August 22, 1929, the daughter of Joseph and Maebel (Van Valkenburg) Rudis.

Marilyn graduated from Keene State Teachers College. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher who taught in Wilton, Lyndeborough, and New Boston and served as interim principal in Wilton. Even in her retirement, she made teaching visits to the Greeley School in Wilton, delighting youngsters with French lessons and artistic storytelling.

Marilyn enjoyed writing, both poetry and prose. She wrote stories about New York City. During her youth, her father managed Hotel Flanders on 133 West 47th Street in New York City, where she had an opportunity to meet many actors including Bert Lahr (Oz’s cowardly lion), who bought her an ice cream cone. Marilyn loved music and passed this love on to her family. She loved Broadway shows. Marilyn also loved quilting and crocheting.

Marilyn was a foster parent. She was also active hosting children in the Fresh Air Program and the International Farm Youth Exchange. She was featured on a local NH television station. Marilyn did a lot of charitable things for many people and never wanted recognition for it.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Roberta Greeley Curtis and her husband, Stephen, of Milford, NH; her son, Marlon Greeley and his wife, Deborah, of Wilton, NH; one sister, Jane Field of Vacaville, CA; one brother, Steven Rudis; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandsons.
