Obituary for Roland Arthur Smith
Roland Arthur Smith, 79, of Deering, NH, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at his home. Roland was born December 3, 1936, in Pepperell, MA, the son of Everett Arthur and Alice Mary (Demers) Smith. He was the third of their 14 children. He married Beverley (Call), on September 4, 1965 - having just celebrated 50 years together.
Roland served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War being stationed in France. In the late 1960's Roland served as Cubmaster with Cub Scout Pack 10, Wilton, NH. During this time he was active with the VFW Harley Sanford Post 4368 in Milford, NH, serving as a member of the color guard. Roland was a member of the Wilton, NH, Lions Club, and had held the position of King Lion. He was a 30-year member of the American Legion, Bent-Burke Post #10, Wilton, NH. He was a current member of American Legion Young & Richardson Post #59, in Hillsboro, NH. Roland was a member of the Smith Memorial Church, UCC, Hillsborough, NH, and a parishioner of the First Presbyterian Church of Antrim, in Antrim, NH.
Roland is survived by his wife, Beverley; 2 daughters, Donna Doran and her husband, Dale, of Hancock, NH, and Kathi Kendall and her husband, Chuck, of Francestown, NH; 4 sons, Charles E. Smith and his wife, Suk, of Bemidji, MN, Dale M. Smith and his wife, Debbie, of New Boston, NH, Leon W. Smith and his wife, Tammy, of New Durham, NH, and Jason A. Smith of Fountain Inn, SC; 4 sisters, Betty McGonis, Anita Lavoie, Linda Towne, and Wanda Siesicki, all of Nashua, NH; 3 brothers, Everett J. Smith, of Marietta, GA, William Smith, and Mark Smith, both of Nashua, NH; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
Roland, was predeceased by 4 sisters, Lucy Drohan, of Nashua, NH, Mary, Anna, and Loretta; 2 brothers, Jay, and Danny; and one grandson, Shelby Smith.
