Obituary for Thomas M. Downey
Thomas “Tom” Michael Downey, 37, who grew up in Mason, NH, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 12, 2016. Born on June 27, 1979, Tom was the beloved son of Paul and Deborah Downey. He lived most recently with his twin brother and best friend, Patrick Downey, in Buffalo, NY. Tom attended Mason schools, Cushing Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Northeastern University in Boston. Tom had a career as a Journeyman electrician.
Tom came into life feet first and his path in life was rarely paved, but it always led to family, friends and a new adventure. Tom was the person everyone could turn to, and his answer was always, “yes.” His life’s gift was giving to others, always rolling up his sleeves to lend a helping hand and bringing smiles and laughter to all around him.
Tom’s family and friends will deeply miss the bright smile he always had on his face, his wonderful sense of humor, his limitless generosity and his huge heart.
Tom was predeceased by his mother, Deborah (Shay) Downey. He is survived by his twin brother Patrick Downey, his father Paul Downey and stepmother Ann Gavin of Brookline, NH, his grandfather Clint Shay of Hardy, VA, and his siblings Paul Downey, Jr. and his wife Lynda of Fredericksburg, VA, Jeff Marshall and his wife Elaine of Milford, NH, Lisa (Downey) Rodriguez and her husband Omar of Orinda, CA, Sarah Downey of Arlington, TX, and stepbrothers Austin and Zachary Blum of Brookline, NH. He was a favorite uncle of seven nieces and nephews, Sean and Kaitlyn Downey, Meghan and Noah Marshall, and Luke, Marco and Elle Rodriguez. Tom shared his love of life with his girlfriend, Sara Parke of Buffalo, NY. Tom also touched the lives of many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends who will all cherish his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom’s name to the Family Addiction Program at GNMHC, 440 Amherst St., Nashua, NH, 03063.
