Obituary for Helen Whalen
Helen “Gram” W. Whalen, 90, died peacefully in her Wilton home, on Feb 12, 2019. Helen was born on June 14, 1928, the daughter of Forest and Clara Whitcomb. She graduated from Wilton High School. She married Merton Haywood and they had 2 daughters, Brenda and Darlene. She was a stay at home mom for many years as her daughter Darlene had cystic fibrosis and needed constant care. Merton passed away in 1958 and Darlene passed away in 1964. Helen always wanted to help people and decided to go to nursing school. She graduated in 1970 from Moore General Hospital as LPN and did private duty for many years. She married William Whalen in 1970 and they were together until his death in 2005. Helen is predeceased by her first husband, Merton Haywood, her daughter, Darlene Haywood, her second husband William Whalen and her two sisters, Maude and Amy Whitcomb. Helen is survived by her daughter, Brenda Wade. Her grandchildren, Kathi and Anthony Ervin, Deborah and Kenneth Gray, Robert Jones Jr. and fiancée Tiffany, and Michael and Marianne Jones. Her great grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Miranda, Hayley, Nicholas, Nathan, Lauren and Cari. Great –great grandchildren Donovan, Nicholas Jr and Rylie. Friends and family are warmly welcomed to calling hours that will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Michaud Funeral Home, Maple St, Wilton, NH, at 10am, followed by service, with burial at Laural Hill Cemetery, Wilton, NH, at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Breast Cancer Society or The Animal Rescue League of Bedford, NH.
