Obituary for Robert Whitney
Robert “Bob” Whitney died peacefully in his sleep on September 23, 2016, at the age of 90. Bob was born January 14, 1926, in Nashua NH. He attended school in Wilton NH.

Bob married Margaret (Peggy) Egan, in New York City while serving in World War II. He served in the Navy in World War II and the Korean War, enlisting at a very young age after Pearl Harbor.

Bob was a skilled blacksmith/farrier and horseman. He was especially proud of having been a handler for the Budweiser Clydesdales for 20 years, which allowed him to travel throughout the United States and participate in well-known parades, such as the Rose Bowl Parade and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Upon his retirement from Budweiser, he was able to focus on his passion for horses and devoted much of his time to competing in draft horse pulls. His expert advice and knowledge pertaining to horses was often sought by local teamsters and owners.

Bob is survived by his children, Cheryl Lewis-Wetmore, of Brandon, VT, and William Whitney, of Dameron, MD; his brother, Earle Whitney, of Hollywood, Florida; six grandchildren, Robyn Scarborough, of Bomoseen, VT, Crystal Bacon, of Fort Sill, OK, Terence Lewis, Jr., of Rutland, VT, Austin Remmel, of Maryland, Rebecca Windsor, of Maryland, and Lois Tink, of Texas; and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Egan; sisters Arlene Philbrick, of Greenville, NH, and Janet Edmunds, of Wilton, NH; and his parents, William and Etta Hall, of Wilton NH. He also leaves a behind a very special friend, Patricia Francis, of Live Oak, FL.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, October 1, 2016, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wilton, NH. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Spring Hill Horse Rescue, at 175 Middle Road, Clarendon, VT, 05759.
